Stephen Lawlor is an Irish artist who has had exhibitions and events in Sweden for over 20 years. He is a member of Aosdána (an Irish association of artists) and an associate member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers in London. For the exhibition Lawlor has organized a group of 10 Irish printmakers. Most of the artists featured in the show are from Graphic Studio Dublin Print Workshop and some from the Black Church Print workshop.

Featured artists: Ailbhe Barrett, Ria Czerniak-Lebov, Mary A. Fitzgerald, Niamh Flanagan, Clare Henderson, Stephen Lawlor, James McCreary, Niall Naessens, Robert Russell and Aoife Scott.

Ailbhe Barrett initially had interest in historical techniques in oil painting, and how these facilitated communication between artist and viewer. At a later stage she studied printmaking, in Limerick Printmakers and Graphic Studio Dublin, exploring the relationships between etching, drawing and painting, the important place print has had in contemporary art and throughout its history, as well as its place in own body of work. Her work is included in collections such as OPW, Irish Georgian Society and Irish National Botanical Gardens.

Ria Czerniak-LeBov is a printmaker and artist from Dublin. She received first class honours from the National College of Art and Design with a BA in Fine Art Print and History of Art in 2016. Upon graduation, Ria was the recipient of Graphic Studio Dublin’s Graduate Award and is now a full time studio member. Her work has been shown at The Royal Hibernian Academy, The Royal Ulster Academy, Trinity College Dublin, National University Ireland Maynooth, St. Patrick’s Hospital, The Printmaker’s Gallery and Graphic Studio Gallery. Her work explores the subjectivity of memory, focusing on the urban l andscape, the relationship between digital, analogue and drawn space.

Mary A. Fitzgerald was born in Dublin where she lives and works. She graduated with a Masters in Fine Art Print from NCAD in 2004. She works primarily through Painting and Printmaking. She is a lecturer in first year Art & Design and the Print Department at NCAD. Fitzgerald has been a recipient of a Visual Arts Bursary and Professional Development Grant from The Arts Council of Ireland. Other awards include Independent Artists Studio Award and the Heinrich Boll Artists Residency. Her work is included in collections such as OPW, Axa Insurance, and Bank De Paris.

Niamh Flanagan graduated from Fine Art Print at
the National College of Art and Design, and is now
a member of Graphic Studio Dublin where she also works as Projects Manager and Master Printer. Selected exhibitions include Dwellings of Mind and Space, The Printmakers Gallery Dublin, Île d’Hiver, Winter Island Centre Culturel Irlandais Paris, Chester Beatty Library Dublin, Graphic Studio Gallery Dublin, From Islands to other Seas, Graphic Studio Dublin and Inside Worlds, at SO Fine Art Dublin, Collision, the Law Society of Ireland and RHA 188th Annual Exhibition, Dublin. In 2019 she was awarded the GSD Behaviour and Attitudes commission. Her work is in the collections of the Office of Public Works, The Law Society of Ireland, the British Library and the National Gallery of Ireland.

Clare Henderson began her art training in Ballyfermot Senior College and went on to study Fine Art Print in the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. On graduating in 2005 she began printing in Graphic Studio Dublin, having received the Graphic Studio Dublin Graduate Award (2005). There, with the help of studio staff and members, she has furthered her printing practice to create a body of work based around ideas relating to the human condition. She enjoyed her first solo exhibition in Monstertruck Gallery in 2006 and since then has exhibited in the Talbot Gallery, SO Fine Art Editions, Graphic Studio Gallery and the National Gallery of Ireland.

Stephen Lawlor was born in Dublin in 1958. He lectured at IADT, in printmaking and drawing and was chairman of Graphic Studio Dublin. He participated in the 1st International Print Biennial, Lingshi China 2012 and 7th International Biennial Douro Portugal 2014. He won 1st prize at New Grounds International Print, Albuquerque NM, USA in 2013 and joint 1st at Adogi, 35th Miniprint International, Cadaques, Spain in 2015. Stephen was elected an associate member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in London, (ARE) in 2016 and was a founder member of the International Academic Printmaking Alliance (IAPA) at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing also in 2016. He was elected a member of Aosdána in 2018.

James McCreary was born in Dublin in 1944. He worked at Harry Clarke’s stained glass Studio between 1960-1963. From 1964-1978 he worked as a steel erector for Smith & Pearson’s structural steel engineering works. In 1973 he joined the Graphic Studio Dublin Studio studying etching and lithography, and became studio manager in 1980. He set up and managed the Graphic Studio’s visiting artist’s programme which introduced many of Ireland’s leading artist’s to printmaking.

Niall Naessens was born in Dublin in 1961. He is a graduate of the National College of Art and Design. He has a long association with the Graphic Studio Dublin and was a director between 2001 and 2006. He more recently set up, and now manages, Cló Cill Rialaig (print workshop) on behalf of the Cill Rialaig Project. His work is in many collections including the Bank of Ireland, the Contemporary Art Society of Ireland, Chester Beatty Library, National Gallery of Ireland, Northern Bank, Office of Public Works, Hilton Hotel and Dublin City University. He has been commissioned by University College Dublin, Dublin Port and the Department of Foreign Affairs amongst others.

Robert Russell was born in Dublin and attended IADT Dun Laoghaire from 1979. He specialized in sculpture but also worked in painting and print, winning a prize for painting in the Taylor Art Competition in 1980. He also received the Alfred Beit Award and the Norah McGuinness Award before graduating in 1993. Robert is Studio Director and Master Printer at Graphic Studio Dublin since 2007. His work is in the collections of The National Gallery of Ireland, The Chester Beatty Library, and The British Library.

Aoife Scott graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 2013 with an honours degree in Fine Art Print. Upon graduating she received The Graphic Studio - Graduate Award where she worked for four years before moving to London in 2017 where she completed a Masters in Print at The Royal College of Art. Aoife has recently moved back to Dublin where she remains a full time member of The Graphic Studio. Aoife has exhibited internationally and in Ireland and has won and been nominated for numerous awards including The Wilkinson Print Award at the RHA Annual Exhibition - 2018 and The Honorary Mention at The KoMASK Masters of Print Exhibition, Antwerp. Her work has also been collected by The V&A, The British Library and The National Gallery of Ireland.
